Guinea Pig Behavior

Guinea Pigs are very intelligent animals. They make lots of different noises, can be trained to use a litter box, and do tricks. They also have a lot of interesting natural behaviors.

Guinea Pigs are very social, and typically get along well with one another; however, some males tend to fight with other males over territory. Keeping male Guinea Pigs separate from other males is always a good idea.
Guinea Pigs make different sounds for different emotions; a long squeak usually means "Feed Me!" while teeth chattering is a sign of aggression. If you own a Guinea Pig, you will soon be able to recognize what your Guinea Pig is saying.
You should keep your Cavy away from any other pets; dogs and cats will try and attack your Guinea Pig.
Holding your Guinea Pig correctly is an important thing. Grab the Cavy under their stomach and lift them gently, being sure to support their bottom.
Some people train their Guinea Pigs to use a litter box, so they can have free range of the house.
